Effer-K Reduces Side Effects for Patient Formerly on Epiklor (Potassium Chloride)

We recently received an e-mail from a patient (Laura) who requested samples of Effer-K be sent to her physician’s office.  Laura had tried two different potassium chloride products, but suffered from nausea and diarrhea.   Here is her story:

A few years ago I was on Klor-con KCl tablets due to my low potassium levels. I had stopped using the (KCl) supplements last year which caused really bad side effects, but once I stopped, I needed to retake potassium supplements again. I think that my physician may have written a script for Effer-K at that time, but the pharmacy didn’t have it in stock so he substituted Epiklor packets… so I just started reusing the Epiklor again and have had some side effects but not as bad as the horrible Klor-con side effects (I could only take those for less than 2 weeks).

Anyway, long story longer… My Dr wrote me asking that I try to take 2 doses of “Effer-K” due to my potassium levels still being low and I realized that she must have prescribed that last year when the pharmacy didn’t have it, so I, again, just continued with the Epiklor… Unfortunately, I’m one of those people who is hyper sensitive to many medicines and having read about “Effer-K” online, I wanted to try to see if the side effects lessen (hoping for the best).

This time, I was able to get the Effer-K from my pharmacy and have been on the 10 MEQ dosage that my Dr gave to me and if I’m ok with these, then I am instructed to start taking the 20MEQ doses… I am currently awaiting my potassium blood test results to see how effective the 10 MEQ is.. I’ll try to remember to update you, however, it may be better that you check back in a couple of weeks. Thanks!

After two weeks, I checked in with Laura to see how the Effer-K was working for her.

So far, so good..  the diarrhea and nasty stools are gone…  periodically I still have a bit of stomach distension and nausea but not as severe as before.

Once again, a happy patient! Thanks, Laura.
